Lol, it's not often you are wrong - but you are right again!
And yes we do history in class, and I learnt about Hitler, and Stalin, and Pol Pot, and Genghis Khan, and Senator McCarthy, so I know the world has always had problems, and that when I have children, they will grow up and say the same things about the world my generation left them. I was being light-hearted in my response to how wonderful the world was when the oldies were young, and it gave me an excuse to use one of my fave Monty Python skits.
Oh and BTW, it's not important, but something like 'Willie old sod', is not usual British usage. We would use Bill, or Billy, as a familiar form of William (Willie or Willy would refer to to a penis, or someone called Wilfred ), and we would refer to the earth or land of England as 'the old sod'. We might call someone a 'silly sod', and use 'sod' in lots of other ways - like in 'sod it!' or 'the sodding thing!', but not usually as a form of address.
Oh, I wish I were a glow worm,
for a glow worm's never glum,
'cause how can you be grumpy
when the sun shines out your bum!
Guns were simply a part of our upbringing. When each kid (4 of us) turned 10, Dad enrolled us in the local gun club's child safety classes. We learned how to safely handle firearms and shoot them responsibly. IMO, gun safety should be included in in our educational system, say 7th grade.
“Fathom the hypocrisy of a government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured…but not everyone must prove they are a citizen. And now, any of those who refuse, or are unable, to prove they are citizens will receive free insurance paid for by those who are forced to buy insurance because they are citizens.”

Yep, punishment was having to stay inside rather than be outside with our friends, building a fort, fishing in a nearby creek, or putting penny's on the railroad tracks in hopes of derailing the next train, lol.
I wanted 14 kids when I was young, then God said uh, nope. Probably a blessing.
