Well, of course the self-identified liberals on this forum may or may not be a good representation of "the left", but it might be helpful to go back and see what responses were offered when it was being posted about the first time. It's really easy to accuse a demographic of being "silent" on some topic, but frequently it's more a matter of the accuser simply making no attempt to hear what's being said.

Any number of reasons. For one thing, we're an extremely small contingent - and getting smaller all the time, it sometimes appears. Most of the self-identified liberals on tPF strike me as being fairly moderate in their views; even what one might term the more "fringe" views of one or two liberal members are nowhere near as radical - or, frankly, as nutty and extreme - as some of the opinions and proposals of some of your guys.
I would venture to say that tPF's liberals are probably more likely to be firearms owners. We're likely to take a more balanced and moderate view of issues like illegal immigration. And - perhaps most importantly in addressing the thread topic at hand - we are, collectively, probably a bit more likely to look at something like the op-ed piece noted in the OP and just shake our heads, rather than feeling the need to defend it in some way. In reading back through the first thread on this subject, I see that 'Common Sense' was really the only left-leaning member to comment. I remember seeing the thread title in passing, but never stopped in to read it. Some days I get my full allotment of Stupid at work and don't need to look for it elsewhere.

You could do that, but I think you'd be hard pressed to justify the claim - made recently on this forum by someone...you? - that this kind of thing happens on "every college campus every day". In other words, I don't believe you could find enough news stories supporting that claim, and it would soon become a repository of stories found on a RW "news" site from three years ago, and that sort of thing.
