    Better & Cheaper

I went shopping yesterday. My doctor and hospital group aren't accepting any individual plans issued by any insurer, so I'm really just buying a plan to cover emergencies. In that case, they have to treat me and accept my insurance unless they can find a place to send me outside their network.

This year I've been paying $816 a month with a $6,000 deductible. The closest I could come is a plan that will cost me $996 a month and a seven grand deductible.

So in my case, 2018 will be neither better or cheaper.

For what it's worth, I just pay cash for my doctor visits and get a big discount. It's one way to keep your doctor, insurance just doesn't pay for it.

Those of you on company plans don't know how good you've got it.

Your company offers no option? Wow that sucks. If you are fairly heathy and get a catastrophic policy that might work. You can pay for a lot of routine stuff for $1,000.00 a month but watch lab work, it's outrageous.

I don't work for a company and hence, have to buy an individual plan on the marketplace. Without a marketplace, I probably couldn't even buy a plan. I'm not complaining as much as pointing out how screwed up things are. I'm playing hardball on $30,000 hanging out there from this summer. It's a mess. I wish my fellow Republicans had done as much possible to fix ACA for the good of all Americans.

The ACA cant be fixed and is part of the problem with private health insurers. Before the ACA my brother in law had a private BC BS full coverage family plan for 1150 a month no deductibles or copays now the same plan is gone. Replaced with a plan thats over 1600 a month for family with a 5,000 deductible and 35 copays.

People want to believe whats not true, obamacare screwed up the private insurance market and gave companies away out of paying for employee healthcare.

Being from Canada, specifically Ontario, I am used to only showing my health card. No insurance paperwork. No bills. No co-pays. So on.

I am very lucky to have probably one of the best healthcare plans possible in the US. Going from Ontario's OHIP to no insurance would be startling. I can only imagine how $#@!ing stressful it is to not have coverage.

$816 for an individual policy with just you and a $6K deductible? I can only assume you are in that last age step before medicare.

That's correct, but I'm sure I'm not alone.
