Emmanuel Macron has found the problem

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced plans for a new law to combat so-called fake news.He said that during elections social media would face tougher rules over the content that they put online.
Deliberate attempts were being made to blur lines between truth and lies and undermine people's faith in liberal democracy, he added.
Correspondents say there is no question that Mr Macron had Russia in mind when he made the announcement.
    "Correspondents say"

New laws on free speech? Interesting. Maybe Putin got you elected, Emmanuel.

Speaking at a new year reception for the media, Mr Macron said it was possible now at a cost of just a few thousand euros to propagate untruths over social media.
"Thousands of propaganda accounts on social networks are spreading all over the world, in all languages, lies invented to tarnish political officials, personalities, public figures, journalists," he said.
In response, he proposed imposing tougher rules on social media about revealing the sources of apparent news content.
He also said limits would be put on how much could be spent on sponsored news material.
All to 'protect democracy.' What a joke.

No one, no country can stop fake news. The news media has blown every shred of credibility and they have broken all the rules with President Trump. The media will never have the respect of the american people again.

LOL People believe what they already believe and the only thing news does fake or not is support those beliefs. This is something liberals, progressives and sane people everywhere haven't learned yet and it is why we need to call a spade a spade. How about our last president, a Kenyon can you believe it? Or our current president, an honest truthful man who investigated our last president. Can you believe it? LOL

Steve Bannon, please stop calling a spade a spade, remedial political correctness may be required, we only shoot the other fellow not our own. "Morals and criticism are not so properly objects of the understanding as of taste and sentiment." David Hume

People I talk to think Trump will resign at the end of this year if republicans lose power in congress, I'm not so sure, the man is an egotist as well as an idiot and that is a bad combination. Fools cannot see themselves.

People do already believe what they believe, take for example your posts prior to the 2016 elections when you believed Trump had no chance because that's what the fake news had convinced you of. One of the known herd here on tpf, the fake news sure owned you and here I am speaking to it....you come along and provide an example. Thanks midcan.

Is there an o in Kenyan........midcon? That could be a typo but then the o and a are on opposite sides of the f'n keyboard now aren't they. Odd that.

Bannon already backing off but then not the last time you got caught speaking out prematurely either. Like many of your reporter heroes, maybe you should serve a suspension for fake news too.

Does Timothy remember when the Tea Party or any criticisms poured on Obama were labeled racism, when simply not voting for Hillary was misogyny? SOme have no credibility Mr. Snyder, when they trying to speak to criticizing power. You......cause you're a leftist....are probably included in that sphere of humor. Like the post I'm responding to.

So....to date. This Macron Cat is gonna pour investment into energy efficient homes for the poor. Increase energy imports twofold as their nuclear infrastructure is decades old and needs investment. And he's now taking on the monster threat of free speech. What right does any government have to come in and get involved in political ads or how We the People elect our Representatives? This is why the Supreme Court shout down claims that corporations or unions couldn't group monies and pour them into election campaigns. Who is the government....to step in and tell We the People how to elect...that government. Full disclosure, recall election rules, I can see limits, but I agreed with the Courts on Citizens United. And so did every Obama/Clinton voter, both of them having near billion dollar war chests during campaigns, it's more than clear money in politics didn't phase Democrats as an example.

Neither one of us knows what this nonsense means. I got lost on the present President investigating the prior President when it's the opposite. Or something.

I think it highly debatable Macron's assertion that any government can dictate sourcing rules for the media. That the government can determine "lies that tarnish" political figures or trying to set monetary limits on political speech. Ridiculous and socialist and yet not a Leftist on these pages do you hear object. Almost as if.....they'd prefer a government entity that could do the same here. Many all a flutter over net neutrality and yet the French want to squash political speech on the internet and they deafen us with their silence.
