Hospitals around here generally don't use anti-venom to treat snake bites because it is hard to get and about as dangerous as the venom itself. They mostly just treat the symptoms as they occur as best they can until the crisis is over.

Not an option with a diamond back or moccasin bite, if you did pull thru an amputation of the bite area is very likely.

That is crazy. They are very aggressive.

I caught him on the silver river, pinned him with a stick and carried it thru a distance of woods to the boat ramp, put him in a paper bag and took him home. I kept him in a tank in a shed out back.

Had it for a few weeks until my Canadian stepdad figured out what is was. "What kind of snake is that, ey?" *me* "it's a banded water snake.

He found a field guide in my room, the jig was up! I had to help him kill it. He was scared $#@!less and could hardly weild the axe as I held the snake with a noose on a pole!

While being true, florida is LOADED with pythons that are destroying the entire natural balance. Experts originally said do nothing the gators are the top of the food chain and will stop them.

That turned out to be dead wrong and pythons now share the top spot with gators, experts now say that pythons win 50% of the encounters with gators, but they are destroying the food chain that gators depended on and species are being depleted

Florida is where ALL idiots outside the country bring stuff into, we have insects, animals and snakes and lizards that dont belong here. We even have an oriental fish that nothing in fla can compete with that is so widespread they cant get rid of them

They need HUGE prison sentences for smuggling exotix animals

Recently fla hired python hunters from india, these indians walk in water barefoot and find the snakes and capture them. After 3 months they told fla theres too many you need hundreds of hunters to diminish the population

Unfortunately, people acquire these snakes and then when they get so large that they have to start feeding them live rabbits, they don't want them anymore and just dump them in some wilderness area. Florida has a perfect climate for them and plenty to eat, so they thrive. The importation of these animals should carry a serious prison sentence unless they are going to someone licensed to own them.

Ive seen that barefoot footage....watched in completely horrified fascination. Then had nightmares.

Last i heard Texas (thanks for stupid rep, folks) leads the US in "private" big cat "ownership."
Ownership my ass. They own you. Yah, yah, yah most pets do but this is plain stupid. And makes me sad for the big guys.

Show me one article (not even peer reviewed) that suggests that garter snakes or any snakes have dirty mouths. It doesn't make any kind of biological sense. A dog bite should have far more bacteria.

Mouth rot, is a problem in snakes.
