    If you're talking about newspapers or magazines, that's one thing. They have to have a team of fact checkers. That's still on the editorial staff rather than with the publisher. You can actually have editors that have no affiliation with the publisher. Book publishers rarely do fact checking, which is how books such as A Million Little Pieces get published.

    If the defamer instructs another party to publish material that is defamatory, such as a publishing house, printer or broadcaster, that party may also be liable for the defamation if the printer or publishing house is typically aware of the content of what it publishes or could find out whether the material is defamatory.     Sorry, I just don't see a publisher accepting something so damning without first checking the validity of it first.
