The difference is that the occupy protests lasted for months without end. A lot of them didn't go home during that time and because of that the chance of crime increases. I would bet if the tea party rallies stayed in the same area for a length of time with people sleeping, eating and living in that space it would have had some of the same problems.
About as much as insufficient proof made O.J. Simpson innocent. Let's face it, the OWS crowd was a bunch of deadbeats and their goal was violence. I don't doubt there were a few sincere and decent people there who we simply gullible but the prevalence of violence was not isolated.
There is no comparison with the Tea Party folks or even the Million Man March on Washington, which although it wasn't close to a million was still a lot of people.
