    Fabricating a War on Iran

    https://www.counterpunch.org/2018/01...a-war-on-iran/

Secretary of State Colin Powell brandished a vial he claimed contained anthrax at the UN Security Council on 5 February 2003, and showed satellite photos of secret sites where chemical weapons were supposed to be manufactured. He later admitted the story was fabricated, but not before it had served as a PR launch pad for the Iraq war.On 11 December 2017 the US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, appeared with huge fragments of what she claimed was an Iranian missile that had missed its target. She maintained it had been fired from Yemen at a Saudi civil airport, ‘a G20 country’ and had ‘the potential to kill hundreds of innocent civilians in Saudi Arabia … Just imagine if this missile had been launched at Dulles Airport or JFK. Or the airport in Paris, London or Berlin.’
Never mind it could not have travelled that far. Once again, fear is being manufactured to justify war: 14 years after destroying Iraq, the US government has Iran in its sights.
Haley’s lack of imagination might be entertaining were the subject not so serious. In 2003 Powell criticised the existence of ‘sinister’ links between Saddam Hussein and Al-Qaida. This was replayed on 1 November 2017: the CIA published a cache of documents seized in Pakistan when Osama bin Laden was assassinated, supposed to prove the existence of improbable links between some of Bin Laden’s successors and Iran’s (Shia) leadership.
It’s as if Washington has already forgotten the support – real, not alleged – it gave Bin Laden when he fought the Soviets in Afghanistan, or Ronald Reagan’s illegal arms sales to Iran when he sought funding for his far-right friends in Nicaragua.
Back then, no one used this as a pretext for declaring war on the US. Today, Saudi Arabia, Israel and many US leaders are spoiling for a fight with Iran, which faces internal unrest. The influential Republican senator Tom Cotton, possibly the next head of the CIA, can hardly wait. He thinks that all the US’s diplomatic challenges (Iran, North Korea, China, Russia, Ukraine) have a ‘military option’. And the danger posed by Iran, which he believes to be greater than that from North Korea, would justify a ‘primarily naval and air attack against its nuclear infrastructure’ (1).
Seems to me these republicans and democrats clamoring for war have stock and dividends in war machines. Kill their children. Draft the rich children first. Weed out stupidity in America.
If the Republicans will stop telling lies about the Democrats, we will stop telling the truth about them.

Both Israel and Saudi Arabia would love this.

I don't think that there would be a war between the US and Iran.

If I am wrong, it will be short and decisive. Iran's military could be decimated rather quickly. This assumes no crazy invasion of Iran.

We only got one of Bush's "axis of evil" remeber. Wasn't it Iraq, Iran and NK before the sound and video went clumsily to commercial break in Bush's 2003 speech? But the wr mongers are still after he other two.

I think you are not qualified to give an opinion.

Our naval fleet in the region would destroy the Iranian navy and air force before anyone could mount a response. What is their army going to do? Drive across Europe and swimp / float to the east coast?

I am not as optimistic as you about either aspect. I do think a war with Iran is possible and I do think that Iran is capable of inflicting some damage to our forces. Sure we would win, but it is far more bleak an idea to have to fight Iran than say North Korea or Iraq or even Syria.

Iran hasn't been to war since the 1980's. They haven't a clue what open, total warfare with the US is like, as opposed to paying cowards to strap explosives on their childrens' bodies and sending them off to die.

The "Republican Guard" would be annihilated, entirely from the air. We wouldn't have to put a boot on the ground to utterly destroy their military. ONE CARRIER GROUP could do the job, in less than two weeks.

Vladimir wouldn't allow Trump to do it, your insult not withstanding.

Still confused about who Putin's $#@! is, we see: (Do I need to add the Obama " Please let me swallow, Vlad" video, too? )

Ok...I will., just to keep REMINDING YOU OF THE FACTS of "Russian Collusion", and who is actually guilty of it:

    Yeah...SPEAKING OF "FAVORS" :

Wow. Former Pres.Mommy Pants SURE MADE GOOD ON THAT "MORE FLEXIBILITY" PROMISE TO PUTIN, DIDN'T HE??

Meanwhile, the economy is BOOMING, black unemployment at it's LOWEST IN RECORDED HISTORY, ISIS crushed, North and South Korea talking, and Americans seeing MORE OF THEIR OWN MONEY ALREADY...

    Plus this:
Unlike former Pres."Mommy Pants More Flexible for Vlad" , Pres.Trump continues to counter attempted Russian expansionism with ACTION, instead of the groveling submission Putin became accustomed to from Obama.

Now, in addition to deploying missile defense systems in Eastern Europe (Poland and Romania) , AGAINST THE EXPRESS WISHES OF PUTIN, Pres.Trump has now approved the sales of lethal weaponry to the Ukraine, to help them fight back against the pro-Russian separatists, something Obama REFUSED TO DO, because, as we ALL KNOW, he never wanted to upset his mancrush, Vladipoo.

UPDATE: IN addition to the weapons listed below, the US has also just approved the sale of LETHAL, TANK-KILLER TOW MISSILES to the Ukraine, as well.

Trump Approves US Lethal Weapons Sales to Ukraine, Angering Moscow

KYIV, UkraineU.S. President Donald Trump has approved the sale of commercial lethal weapons to Ukraine, a pivotal decision that comes amid an escalation of Russia’s ongoing proxy war in the country’s embattled eastern Donbas region.

Trump has reportedly approved a $41.5 million deal for Tennessee-based Barrett Firearms Manufacturing to sell Model M107A1 sniper rifles, ammunition, and accessories to Ukraine.

For years, Ukraine has requested U.S. lethal weapons to defend against Russian aggression. News of the U.S. weapons deal was therefore celebrated as a sign of solidarity and, hopefully, a bellwether for more robust American military support in the future.

“The Ukrainian people congratulate President Trump’s decision to sell sniper systems to our army. We hope this is the first step and will follow other, more weighty ones,” said Timur Kobzar, a Ukrainian volunteer who has ferried supplies out to soldiers on the front lines since the war began.

This is not just a good solution, this is a beautiful, long-awaited decision for Ukraine,” Kobzar told The Daily Signal.
“When you have a strong friend behind you, you have more chances to defeat the enemy. And this is exactly the case.”

The reaction from Moscow to the U.S.-Ukraine rifle deal was swift and pointed. On Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called it a “dead-end technique, which would unleash bloodshed again,” the Russian government-owned news site TASS reported.

Some say the weapons deal, which is limited to commercial sales of small arms and light weapons, could be the opening salvo of a full-blown diplomatic about-face by the Trump White House, which would ultimately reverse the Obama administration’s longtime refusal to arm Ukraine.

If the president formally signs off, the plan will be presented to Congress for a 30-day review period where it would need to be approved before the State Department can implement it.

The sale of anti-tank missiles, which could possibly include the U.S.-made Javelin system, provoked a strong reaction from Russia on Saturday, saying it "crossed the line," and could threaten to derail Trump’s calls for better relations with Moscow.

Pretty obvious who did Putin's bidding, and who has STOPPED him in his tracks...
