    The annoyance of aggressive telemarketers

Why are telemarketers (which is just a fancy term for phone solicitors) even allowed to do business in this country? I do not know of anyone who receives these calls who considers them beneficial to society. Just since yesterday--a period of about 24 hours--I have received three--three!--"courtesy calls" as regarding healthcare insurance. (Even if I truly needed such insurance--which I do not, as I am fully covered--I would certainly not buy from someone hawking his--or her--goods over the phone.) I suppose that defenders of this annoying practice might cite First Amendment protections. But even these are not absolute. The Supreme Court, for instance, has ruled that there is no right to shout "Fire!" in a crowded theater. Can others here relate to my severe irritation at this?

A lot of them are outside the country and businesses are not covered by the do not call list. We get dozens a day.

I cant imagine how people fall for these telemarketers, I have various ways I deal with them depending on my mood. My first line of defense is an instant block button on my phone as they are dialing I can block that number until they make a new one. Second is my picking up the phone not letting them tallk and telling them to F off and die. My last one is letting them talk go through the whole speil then asking a bunch of questions then telling them to Kiss my ass or my genitals then I block their number.

    Yeah I do hate scammers

As odd as it seems it appears that telemarketing works. Otherwise they wouldn't do it. In our area they hijack local prefix numbers to make it look like an in town call. I used to rarely get telemarketing calls on my cell phone , but now I do. One time we set up a busiess line for an agency I worked for. We immediately got a telemarketing call from someone selling credit card scanners or something like that. We had not given anyone the number yet , the phone company must have sold it.

Will a hobo eat a ham sandwich? I get dozens of these calls every week. Some are legitimate businesses (not that I really care) and some are obvious frauds. As soon as I realize they are "robo-calls" I hang up. Normally this takes all of 3 seconds into the call. I don't just disconnect from live callers (about 1 out of 10) but again as soon as I know its a telephone solicitation I say "Nope, thanks for calling" and hang up. I once had one on my cell phone from someone who claimed they were looking for my daughter to save her from being arrested. I told them I wasn't going to give them the first bit of information and hung up, they called me back, I reiterated they were fraudsters and hung up again, they called back the third time and told me they knew who I was and where I lived and they would send the cops after me if I didn't help them. I politely told them to go $#@! themselves and hung up again. I am still waiting for the cops to show up and this was a year ago.

I remember the argument when the no call law first came out (they get around that now by having every new call come from a different number) and people argued they had the right to be in business. They never had the right to force their way into my home or business and try to sell me something.

Who in their right mind would buy something from someone out of the blue?

I typically don't answer a number that I don't recognize. For for various reasons sometimes I will.

When I get the telemarketers, I have zero problem hanging up on them.

Of course they are making money or it wouldn’t be happening.
I am tired of everyone fighting with each other. This is all by design.

It has to be a depressing job. They probably get one sucker out of 30 people.

I pull a Sol Rosenberg gag on them. Of course I don't receive these calls in Mexico.

I block telemarketers but that doesn't keep them from getting my voice mail and filling it with wasted messages or calling back. On my cell I refuse to answer anything from out of area that is not in my contacts list. They get 1 shot at leaving me a message showing they are ligit. No message and they get blocked.
