    Old shows are new again.....Why?!!!

This evening when I got home from work I plopped down on the couch grabbed my laptop signed on to tPF (of course!) then clicked on the t.v. to catch some news.

I wasn't paying much attention but then a commercial caught my ear. It was advertising the show "Will and Grace". O....kay, didn't that show go off the air years ago....... Back to my laptop and I'm typing away when another commercial catches my attention. This time it's an advertisement for "Rosanne". I'm like Wha.....t?

Now, I'll admit that I did not watch either of these shows when they were originally on with the exception of a show here or there. My question is: Why are the networks bringing old shows back? Are they incapable of creating new shows? Even way too many movies have become remakes.

I just thought it was weird and sad. Thoughts?

Just a theory but I suspect in the current climate people are looking for some comfort, and both of those shows were pretty popular in their day. Reminders of happier times.

I used to watch Roseanne. My Dad said that he found her annoying. He may have described her differently but that was a long, long time ago.

I think you are half right. I heard this discussed recently on the radio and one of the guests discussing the topic indicated that it is because the kids who grew up watching these shows now are in positions of power/influence and are open to resurrecting franchises out of nostalgia. Sort of the same reason people will watch channels that show "classic" tv over and over again even when they have seen every episode of an old show a billion times--that reminder of a happier time.

    That makes sense as well.

Not sure, but I am a fan of classic TV, when 90% of programming was not blatantly politically motivated.

Ok, but don't be surprised if Wyatt Earp comes back as a black transgendered lesbian. Hollywood is getting loose with this reboot stuff.
