Ecuador grants citizenship to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who has spent 5 year

Ecuador grants citizenship to Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who has spent 5 years in its London embassy

Ecuador has granted citizenship to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, the South American nation’s foreign minister announced Thursday, in a bid to resolve an “unsustainable” situation at its embassy in London, where Assange sought refuge more than five years ago.

But a standoff with British authorities continued, as the Foreign Office rejected an Ecuadoran request that it grant diplomatic status to Assange, insisting instead that the Australian national “leave the embassy to face justice.”

What is being done to Assange is a gross violation of human rights and international norms.

His only "crime" has been exposing the corruption and duplicity of the out of control political class.
Power always thinks it has a great soul, and vast views, beyond the comprehension of the weak. And that it is doing God service when it is violating all His laws.

His choice to avoid a trial. His choice, his hard luck.

A farce of a trial concocted by corrupt elites hellbent on suppressing the truth, perhaps.

I don’t think that’s accurate. From what I’ve read, the investigation has just been suspended. It could be reinstated at any time.

I have yet to see anything which says the charge was actually dropped. Dropping an investigation does not necessarily mean all charges were dropped.

Practicality says that an investigation should be stopped if and when there's no way to apprehend the suspect. If and when that situation changes, the investigation can be resumed.
