Infantry to use drone swarms in urban warfare

Infantry to use drone swarms in urban warfare

This will greatly enhance infantry units.

The science fiction-sounding goal: Put an autonomous robot swarm of 250 or more drones under the control of light infantry soldiers or Marines to do complex tasks on the urban battlefield.

Competitors are now tackling that goal in a multi-stage event announced late last year by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Events called Sprinters are intended to develop “offensive swarm-enabled tactics” for these emerging technologies.

Swarm drone technology already exists. In 2016, the Defense Department successfully tested micro-drone swarms at China Lake, California. They dropped 103 Perdix drones from three F/A-18 Super Hornet jet fighters.

Just keep in mind, any technology the state possesses can be turned inward on its own population. And if history is any indication, there is good reason to worry about stuff like this.
Power always thinks it has a great soul, and vast views, beyond the comprehension of the weak. And that it is doing God service when it is violating all His laws.

Right, but it's a good reason to keep the powers of the state strictly defined and limited. Given half the chance, the state will use it on Americans. They've already turned the country into an electronic concentration camp with their mass surveillance programs, so saturating the country with an army of miniature drones - for "security", of course - doesn't seem that far off.

Once it's possible there is not even any NOT making it. That's the problem with "progress" for progress sake vs. progress for a reason
