We already have selective or multi yeild nuclear weapons. I suspect this is just a shift to placing more emphasis on the tactical nuke side vs strategic.

I clearly established this a few messages ago.

Peter's initial article describes the low yield, new weapons as sea-based weapons. Submarines continue to be difficult to detect. They may be the perfect platform to get close to China in the coming show-down.

Sea based vs land based wasn’t part of my question.

We already have tactical nukes which are a lesser yield than strategic weapons. Would these new systems be of a lesser yield than our current tactical nuclear weapons?

You did not ask a question.

We have no tactical nuclear weapons.

We have a small number of gravity bombs with the capability of selecting a yield. Sea-based is the essential component of the new capability.

The US does indeed have tactical nuclear weapons. They are of a lesser yield than staregic nukes.

I did ask a question. If you don’t know the answer, don’t respond.

In your opinion what would those weapons be? How are they delivered?

Are you aware that the yield of the weapon has nothing to do with a weapon's designation as strategic or tactical?

Strategic weapons are used to influence the outcome of the war. Tactical weapons are used to influence the outcome of a battle or campaign.

I predict we will also create a low-yield underwater unmanned vehicle for stealthy ship and harbor attack.

Number of nuclear weapon types in the current U.S. arsenal: Seven

    1) for submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBMs)
    W76 and W88 warheads
    2) for intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs)
    W78 and W87 warheads
    3) for the air-launched cruise missile (ALCM)
    W80 warheads
    4) for gravity bombs
B61 (multiple variants) and B83. (Some variable yield nuclear warheads such as the B61 nuclear bomb have been produced in both tactical and strategic versions. Whereas the lowest selectable yield of a tactical B61 (Mod 3 and Mod 4) is 0.3 kilotons (300 tons),[17]With the introduction of the B61 Mod 12, the United States will have four hundred identical nuclear bombs whose strategic or tactical nature will be set purely by the mission and target as well as type of aircraft on which they are carried [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactical_nuclear_weapon]

    Are there other weapons?

    Based on the OP, yes.
