Peter's initial article describes the low yield, new weapons as sea-based weapons. Submarines continue to be difficult to detect. They may be the perfect platform to get close to China in the coming show-down.

We have no tactical nuclear weapons.

We have a small number of gravity bombs with the capability of selecting a yield. Sea-based is the essential component of the new capability.

The US does indeed have tactical nuclear weapons. They are of a lesser yield than staregic nukes.

Are you aware that the yield of the weapon has nothing to do with a weapon's designation as strategic or tactical?

Strategic weapons are used to influence the outcome of the war. Tactical weapons are used to influence the outcome of a battle or campaign.
