Did the Food Pyramid Make Us Fat? It was based off the way we fed cows.
It shows how damaging the government can be. They created our obesity epidemic.

Sure blame the government. Like anybody ever followed that thing once the first bag of Doritos hit the pantry on shopping day.

If you follow nutrition in the news and other sources it is pretty clear that the government suggestions were taken at face value and we got fatter. There was always a group of people that said the government recommendations were wrong. And they were called kooks. Now science is proving them correct.

Taking your statement at face value even though I find it suspect as being how Americans make nutritional decisions, it was never that big a secret that a lot of diet/light/fat-free items contained more calories, sugar, etc, than their counter-parts. It was right there on the label. all people had to do was compare them. In the end, it comes down to what we have always known, processed foods are generally bad for you nutritionally and America eats way too much of it because they spend so little time preparing meals now that we live in a two full-time working parent, or single parent households. Somehow, taking something from the freezer, opening the box, and throwing something in the skillet/oven for 20-30 minutes is "home-made" in people's minds.

It is the ignorance about carbs. Simple carb items are sweets in that they are laden with sugar which is on the top, not bottom of the pyramid. Complex carbs are good for you. If there is a problem, it is that people have not distinguished between sugar as a carbohydrate and other types of carbs.

Well over half of my daily calories are derived from complex carbs. Weekends atre a little different because I have a meaty breakfast.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.
