House votes to avert a shutdown; Senate chances dim

"WASHINGTON (AP) — A divided House voted Thursday to prevent a government shutdown after an eleventh-hour deal brought conservatives aboard. But the GOP-written measure faced gloomy prospects in the Senate, and it remained unclear whether lawmakers would be able to find a way to keep federal offices open past a Friday night deadline.
The House voted by a near party-line 230-197 vote to approve the legislation, which would keep agency doors open and hundreds of thousands of federal employees at work through Feb. 16. The measure is designed to give White House and congressional bargainers more time to work through disputes on immigration and the budget that they’ve tangled over for months."

This shut down nonsense is nothing buy partisan hyperbole. Government never shuts down. The big government types live to regulate your life. They can't shut down. If they did, people woukd figure out how much government they don't need.

I've heard of past government shut downs, but I don't remember when they were or what impact they had. I heard that they once shut down some national parks or something. I do remember when they told some civil servants in my home town to stay home for a few days, but they still got paid.

Too many people think government is the center of their universe.

Government shut downs are nothing but partisan political theater.

Let it shut down. Only this time let's agree in advance that only DoD will be paid. No one else.

Stop paychecks in both Houses and see how quick it gets resolved. The Illegalocrats just realized that they are in the process of getting their asses handed to them by the voters over illegal aliens, AGAIN, and have now , "pivoted" over to the CHIPs program, which is included in the House continuing resolution.

Now , their LIE is , "we're doing it for the CHILDREN!!" DACA, all of a sudden, isn't their Main Issue, anymore.

Politicians cannot be trusted under any circumstances.

I think stopping the paychecks would be an excellent resolution to the situation at hand.
