How Dark Were the Dark Ages?

Happened across this yesterday. Kind of enlightening.

So why are we told things were so dark?

Technological advancements stalled and declined between the fall of Rome and the 17th Century.

Contemporary historians use the term "Dark Ages" very cautiously and typically oly to refer to the dearth of written sources for the period between the fall of Rome and about 800.
Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

It was realised in Victorian England that the Dark Ages was a misnomer, it's weird that the notion has persisted for more than a century since.
News: Rich people paying rich people to tell middle class people to blame poor people.

They say a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, but it's not one half so bad as a lot of ignorance.
