Survey results show Christians becoming less concerned about the environment

There has been no "greening of Christianity" among people in the pews, despite efforts by some religious leaders to emphasize environmental stewardship, according to new research.

The pattern generally holds across Catholic, Protestant and other Christian denominations and does not vary depending on levels of religiosity.

"This relationship between religion and the environment is significant because of the increasing importance of climate change," Konisky said. "There may come a time when religious leaders and faith-based organizations generate more interest in protecting the environment and more willingness to demand action, but we haven't seen it yet."

The current lack of enthusiasm comes despite high-profile calls for action such as the encyclical letter on the environment released by Pope Francis in 2015 and despite initiatives led by Evangelical Protestant groups, such as the formation of the Evangelical Environmental Network.

I think that there's a belief that the Man made climate change discussion is a political hoax (or at the least a massive over-reaction) designed to further wealth distribution. For example, for years it was 'man made global warming' and now it's man made climate change coupled with massive wealth redistribution. We also had The Pope buy into the left's climate change agenda. I don't see how transferring wealth from the USA to Africa helps the climate. I think we care as much as anybody about the environment, but when the left (who we have zero trust in) has been telling us the sky is falling for years and we can look up and see it, we're skeptical. (Remember, it's the same left that is running around in pink hats, that called Bush a terrorist, made Obama a deity, told him to go it alone with his pen, wants to put illegals over citizens, demonized corporations, etc -- OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, we're supposed to believe you now?!?) We are very concerned but we don't have any degree of confidence that we're not being sold another Y2K hoax.

Thank you for your comments. I have to be honest, your comments could be misconstrued to mean that only those on the right can be Christians.

I agree that one side seems more vocal and I've seen it time after time that the left struggles with message framing.

For a group whose whole premise is based on "faith" without facts, Christians seem to have very little faith.

To be honest, I don't know how you got that, but you're certainly entitled to your opinion. Climate change is an agenda of the left, not the right.

We agree. Again, how does massive global wealth redistribution such as from the USA to Africa help solve man-made global warming man-made climate change?

Faith in a left that has lied to us and demonized us repeatedly? I don't think so.

    We agree.

Well.......you accuse the left talking points for why Christians don't believe in climate change. So.......that means that only those on the right are Christians otherwise you would have said "Climate Change talking points" are the reason why Christians don't have faith in them. You assigned blame to one side and claimed that's why the "other" side doesn't believe.

    Com'on you're a lawyer......work with me here. hahahahaha

If you only think the left tells untruths than I'm super disappointed right now.

Trish, c'mon, I'm well aware that everyone tells untruths; but, it's the left that's pitching climate change -- not the right.

The far right leaning leadership is responsible for this.

The article is vague as heck. Is this based soley on a skepticism about AGW, or is there evidence that Christians somehow favor dirty air and water? I'm guessing it's based solely on the reluctance to buy into the AGW hoax. I've been around Christians my entire life, and most are pretty pro clean air and water, and responsible stewardship of the natural resources God has blessed us with.

I call B.S. Yes, yes, I know, cussing isn't very "Christiany". My wife would wholeheartedly agree.

It based on poll surveys. I'd be curious to know what questions were asked. I also think there is one thing glaringly missing from this story and that is the impact that politics has had on religious institutes and how their congregations are being influenced.

Yes, they hold some responsibility but so do the far left, maybe just for different reasons.
