    Mapping Taliban Control in Afghanistan

    Mapping Taliban Control in Afghanistan

An interesting map of Afghanistan. The black is Taliban held and the red is contested. Remember the Taliban is largely made up of the largest ethnic group in the country. That is why we won't defeat them.

Description: For nearly two decades the government of Afghanistan, with the help of U.S. and coalition forces, has been battling for control of the country against the ever-present threat of the Afghan Taliban.FDD’sLong War Journal has been tracking the Taliban’s attempts to gain control of territory since NATO ended its military mission in Afghanistan and switched to an “advise and assist” role in June 2014. Districts have been retaken (by both sides) only to be lost shortly thereafter, largely resulting in the conflict’s current relative stalemate. However, since the U.S. drawdown of peak forces in 2011, the Taliban has unquestionably been resurgent.

See the map at the link.

Defeatist is that opinion that some largest ethnicity in Afghanistan cannot be defeated. One will note on the map, the main regions where the Taliban is present in Afghanistan border Pakistan. I might start right there in fighting the Taliban.

The Taliban cannot ever rule Afghanistan again, that reality is intolerable to US national interests. We must fight an enduring and endless if necessary struggle against this 'ethnicity' or terror group, they're not legitimate state leaders, they're a threat to US national security.

We already know what happens when the Taliban assumes control, we're already had that lesson beat in. And you Peter, must end your consistent and naïve policy of ignoring and doing nothing. That doesn't work.

    This is insanity.

The Taliban is a nationalist group who have no interest in the outside world. So long as they don't harbor transnational terrorists they are no threat to any other nation. And if they do, we can conduct raids to end that threat at a much cheaper cost than occupation.

Your post shows why the neocons must never be allowed back into the halls of power in the US. The nation building fetish must be quashed.

If they do, Pete? F'n really? Why not go check your same maps of where al-Qaeda, ISIS, and the vicious Haqqani branch of the Taliban use for safe-havens. What in the fck and under which rock are you coming at me with this from? You'll find that the Taliban continue to harbor al-Qaeda when you do that mapquest, Pete. And where you'll find ISIS is often at odds with the Taliban....and often even fighting each other, it is because the Taliban and ISIS are fighting for the same real estate. And you'll find the Taliban allows this Haqqani network to thrive and they in turn claim nominal allegiance to the Taliban, the Haqqani network responsible for bombing western and Indian embassies and kidnappings.

"If?" They've nothing BUT enable and harbor terror groups that put the entire region at risk and continue to be a threat to the US. You are so blind, Peter.

The Taliban have been fighting the ISIL groups. Which aren't a large number in the country.

And no, NEOCONs are not back in the halls of power (other than a few holdouts in Congress like McCain and Lindsey Graham.

That's what I just said. And am a bit surprised you weren't already aware the Taliban is protecting and harboring terror organizations and terror groups. That word "if they" do so proves what I'm dealing with here, I've still a long way to go with you.

John McCain and Lindsey Graham are neocons? You're a hoot, Pete, is there a donkey in this f'n dog and pony show of yours?
