Does this host have a monopoly?Problem is the host. When things went down, the message was to contact the host. And the host may be a third party using another hosts service. We've been told admin is working on it, but he can do only so much. The host needs to resolve the issue. Maybe buy a few more hamsters to power up the server.

This feels like a denial of service attack against the host.
Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.

The website now has a DDOS filter up, so a DDOS attack seems a fair explanation.

We don't know which other websites are being hosted on the same server. There could be something more high profile than this forum. I was looking up some recent ddos activity. Business Wire has been suffering from a week-long ddos attack as well.
