Man charged for buying gun for suspect who killed Westerville police officers

COLUMBUS -- A Warrensville Heights man is facing charges for buying a gun for the man who shot and killed two Westerville police officers over the weekend.
Gerald A. Lawson, 30, is charged with aiding and abetting the possession of a firearm by a prohibited person for allegedly buying a gun for Quentin Smith. Smith, a convicted felon, is accused of shooting and killing officers Anthony Morelli and Eric Joering in Westerville on Saturday.

This is a good thing, it needs to happen more often, we have gun laws lets enforce them.

I'm a little bit surprised ... trampling on anybodys' gun rights is about the same as capital punishment ... no one would ever dare to arrest and prosecute any gun store owner who sold weapons to mass-murderers who then commenced to use those weapons to massacre men, women and children ...

See there you go getting all confused on facts, this is not trampling on anyone's rights. The scumbag (Smith) that killed these officers was a convicted felon, he by law can not purchase a gun, he does not have the right to arms as he lost that when he decided to become a criminal. Now enter scumbag#2 (Lawson) he it seems got money from Smith, and bought a gun for Smith knowing he was a convicted felon and could not buy one or own one legally. That is against the law so not Scumbag#2 faces charges and 10 years in prison because our gun laws work, when they are enforced.

Lawful gun owners are ok with laws that keep criminals from getting guns, but they are fully against laws that will not impact criminals and only truly interfere with legal owners......

Agreed. The problem is that the anti-gun mob wants to treat all gun-owners as criminals until proven innocent.

The guy made a strawman purchase for a known felon. That is illegal.

It would happen a lot more often if we enacted mandatory gun registration. Much easier to track down the history of a weapon that way.

Really? How do you think that would be? Do you think the criminals will register their gun? The only guns that would be registered would be the legal owners and they would not sell the guns to criminals, so how do you think it would help? By the way the legal sale of firearms is tracked which is why this guy got caught....

You have a point ... say for instance like this firearms dealer who sold Las Vegas Massacre mass-murderer Paddock his weapons and where off-duty Las Vegas police officer Charleston Hartfield was among the dead ...
