Pointing Out That Politicians Took Money From Corporations Will Get You...

This is not about a court of law but a legislative public hearing.

The blurb for the video explains: "Lissa Lucas, a West Virginia resident that is running for the state’s House of Delegates, was recently dragged out of a public hearing for having the audacity to read a list of corporate campaign donors who contributed to the House members that were holding the hearing. The elected officials didn’t want to hear the truth, and they certainly didn’t want those names to be on the public record of their hearing, so they cut off Lissa’s microphone and had security escort her out."

On Friday, a woman named Lissa Lucas attended a public hearing in Charleston, West Virginia to speak against a bill that would make it easier for oil and gas companies to drill on private land. Lucas's approach was simple: she planned to read a the long list of oil and gas companies that have donated to the delegates on the committee who were about to vote on the bill. Before she could finish her statement, her mic was cut, and she was escorted out of the room.

Ok but speakers were limited to 1 min 45 seconds and she wasn't approached until after 1 min and 45 seconds when she was refusing to yield. Yes this is a bigger issue, but she really isn't being silenced the way it is being portrayed.

Not sure about the timing but the committee chair interrupted her to tell her no personal comments. She argued listing donations wasn't personal. The chair insisted it was and stopped her.

Now where have we seen this before???

The second article linked quotes her from the video: "“I have to keep this short because the public only gets a minute and 45 seconds while lobbyists can throw a gala at the Marriott with whiskey and wine and talk for hours to the delegates,” she added."

She is speaking at the 5 second mark in the video and you do not see anybody approaching her until 1:43 when her mic cuts off and the man mouths "Let's Go!!" when she keeps speaking they move her and announce the next speaker at the 2:15 mark

Yes, she says she has a minute 45 compared to other at the gala. Yes.

The video I posted cuts it out but go to the first link, it's video, she starts at the 6 second mark, and at around the 1:20 mark, the chairman interupts her cautioning her not to make personal comments, she's, basically, it's political, goes on a few seconds, and the chairman asks for her removal--she wasn't given a minute 45.

The second video has her using about 1:40 at the very least so I would say that your first video is probably condensed, but whatever. He directed her to discuss the bill that the hearing was being held on.

Well, that's the point, he directed her to discuss the bill instead of the crony corrupt politicians of which he was probably at the top of the list.

There is nothing particularly corrupt about having donors to your campaigns. My understanding is that the bill has been modified to require surface owner consent before a pad can be used to drill into a neighboring property over the objection of these allegedly corrupt corporate donors. Mineral oil and gas rights are a mess in the State of WV after a 100 + years of corruption, so this one if enacted looks like it will be a win for the little guy.

The bill may be good or bad, they should let her speak and list each member's donors corrupt or not. Let the people know and decide. Transparency.

Where do you think this lady got her list of donors from? Campaign contributions are generally public. Should she also have been required to list the donors for her side if transparency is your concern. Allegations of corruption are an every day occurrence in WV politics, especially when it comes to anything having to do with coal, oil and natural gas. I recall a friend of mine from WV telling me that if you put a bumper sticker on your car having anything to do with coal, your car will be vandalized. It didn't matter which side you were on as both sides are nuts. He also said the one upside to 9/11 is that it ended planes towing political banners over the WVU stadium where the sky would get so packed they were lucky they didn't crash into one another. I doubt there is anything she could say in 1:45 that hasn't already been put on blast in the state before all this happened.
