Watching their exchange, I wondered whether restaurant menus need new symbols along the lines of the ones that identify gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan items — symbols that declare fish to be 'species verified' or 'plastic free.' If consumers were more aware of what was in their fish — and what type of fish they were eating in the first place — they might be able to hold key players in the fish industry accountable."

First thing is I never eat anything that isnt identified on the menu then by me. If the fish type isnt listed I do not order it, there are times i will ask a waiter or waitress that I know.

There is is a fish being used by many places for fish and chips or fish sandwichs called swai, its a farm raised fish from Vietnam and I cant stand it. Its not the taste its the textures. I just cant stand it and its the cheapest crap you can buy.

Just so you know chloe just because the food you buy, vegan stuff says it doesnt have this or that in it means nothing also. That organic thing is the easiest thing to falsify. Whole foods not long ago got busted for selling organic labeled stuff that was out of season for the region and was imported and there was no way to know what pesticides or whatever they used on it.

Remember this if you dont grow or raise it yourself you have NO CLUE what you are buying. That goes for meat and vegetables and it ESPECIALLY applies to anything you buy in a restaurant.

Often with "fish and chips" in less expensive restaurants, they don't bother to tell you unless you ask. If it's cheap it could be anything. Even with frozen fish and chips, you often have to check the ingredients list - they don't spell it out on the box in big letters because they don't really want you to know.

I like cod and halibut the best. I rarely eat fried fish.

Growing up, we caught our own and would eat fish at least 3 times a week. Usually spotted sea trout or red fish from the salt water marshes of the Gulf of Mexico.

I do agree that pollution in the oceans make eating fish less desirable these days.

I was eating cod until I tasted haddock. Meatier texture and better tasting. It's inexpensive right now because Russia won't allow Norway to sell there fish there or something. Read it a while back.

It's typically pollock if it's inexpensive. Breaded and fried everything tastes good but I've had pollock from the market and it's fishy. I wouldn't buy it again.

I hate pollock. It's a mushy fish. They also use it to make all kinds of fake seafood products.

They fry it to make it solid.

You can definitely tell the difference between it and cod. I said before I rarely eat fried seafood anymore, but when I was in Gibraltar, I had to get fish and chips. Very good.

I don't generally order cod because too often it hasn't been fresh enough, thus rather fishy. I like pan-fried fish. That way I have more control over the cooking process. I can't stand overcooked fish.

I wouldn't buy it again. I managed to eat it. It wasn't awful but why when I could spends a few dollars more and get a better fish?
