Unfortunately most programs are Anchor in place. So the kids will be standing still for 20 mins waiting for the police to arrive.

We have to stop this. This Gun free zone crap is not working. Time to put armed and trained personnel in the schools.

My high school had an event. Students were stuck where they were for about 4 hours, although they forgot about the dance portable and they were trapped for 8 hours or so. Clearing an entire high school takes a lot of time.

School shootings don't happen as frequently as it seems like. They happen too often, but the media coverage makes it seem like it happens all of the time. The actual need for armed security is not really there, and the potential problems from that could be statistically worse than school shootings. I am not for gun control, but I also do not see any way to rationally argue that introducing guns into school environments is a good idea. Accidents would probably cause more deaths per year than school shootings.

All the schools in my area have what they call resource officers. They are deputy sheriff's or city police and armed. I've been told there is back up within 5 min at all times during school hours. No problems.

The resource officers assigned to high schools where I am from were around 2 days a week and were assigned to two schools each. Having police nearby is necessity just for even every day things.

Suggesting on-site armed security is what I consider excessive for the problem and potentially dangerous.
