France will bomb Syria if chemical weapons are used against civilians

France will bomb Syria if chemical weapons are used against civilians

The article is a bit confusing, probably because the journalist who wrote the piece doesn't know that chlorine is not on the list of chemical weapons in the relevant treaties against chemical warfare.

President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday that “France will strike” if chemical weapons are used against civilians in the Syrian conflict in violation of international treaties, but that he had not yet seen proof this was the case.

Macron said last May that the use of chemical weapons would represent a “red line”. In a telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday expressed concern over signs that chlorine bombs had been used against civilians in Syria.

“On chemical weapons, I set a red line and I reaffirm that red line,” Macron told reporters. “If we have proven evidence that chemical weapons proscribed in treaties are used, we will strike the place where they are made.”

“Today, our agencies, our armed forces have not established that chemical weapons, as set out in treaties, have been used against the civilian population.”

Ayyyyeeee, it's alright if the west and whoever else murders civilians, you know, collateral damage and all that, but this, this would be crossing the line! FFS.

France should be more worried about a stable Syria to prevent more Syrian migrants setting up "shop" in France.

The French government totally cares about democracy and human rights. That must by why they're helping the Saudi dictatorship kill, maim, and starve the country of Yemen.

The Donald gonna spank Assad if he uses chemical weapons again...

U.S. Warns Russia It Will Hit Assad If He Uses Chemical Arms, Sources Say
August 24, 2018, U.S. has intel on attack, Bolton told Russians at Geneva talks; Russia cries provocation, says U.S. plans ‘another escapade’
The U.S. and Russia exchanged warnings about a possible chemical attack in Syria and a Western military intervention in response, on the eve of what may be one of the decisive campaigns in the Middle Eastern country’s civil war. Tensions between the nuclear powers flared after National Security Adviser John Bolton told his Russian counterpart, Nikolai Patrushev, that the U.S. has information Syrian President Bashar al-Assad may be preparing to use chemical weapons to recapture the northwestern province of Idlib from rebels.

    Syrian President Bashar al-Assad

The U.S. is ready to respond forcefully, Bolton said during a five-hour meeting in Geneva on Thursday, according to four people familiar with the discussions. Assad’s army, with Russian air support, has been mustering troops and tanks around Idlib, the last stronghold of Syrian opposition groups now dominated by jihadists. Russia’s Defense Ministry hit back on Saturday, accusing the U.S. of collaborating with al-Qaeda-linked rebels who are preparing to stage an incident that would serve as a pretext for another round of Western attacks on Assad.

    ‘New Provocations’

In April 2017, and again a year later, the U.S. carried out limited airstrikes on Syrian targets as punishment for what it said was the use of chemical weapons. Bolton said any U.S. action will be stronger this time, the people familiar with the talks said. “We caution Washington against another military escapade,” Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in a phone interview Saturday. “When things don’t turn out the way the U.S. and its allies want, then new provocations are prepared.”

While the Geneva talks have highlighted a dangerous new flashpoint in the Syrian war, they also addressed new possibilities for cooperation between the U.S. and Russia, according to the people familiar with the discussions. Central to the talks was the role of Iranian forces in Syria, and the presence of about 2,000 U.S. troops in the country’s northeast, where they’re allied with Kurdish fighters seeking autonomy from Damascus.

Yes but the means of such murders seems to be very important to political types. To me dead is dead whether by wind dependent gas or a drone bobming, a bullet, or conventional bombing runs that could likely kill considerably more people than an average chemical attack.
Essentially weapons we no longer use on humans are bad , everything else is fair $#@!ing game. Including all those innocents in Pakistani villiages. Why do the survivors of those attacks want us dead again? Oh right , religion!

It's amazing that the general public just nods its head in approval over that sort of autistic and illogical line of reasoning.
