Here each school has a couple on hand every school day.

An armed teacher is no more likely to accidentally shoot a teacher than an armed cop.

Get a few armed faculty/staff members on campus. There is nothing to be lost by doing so and potentially everything to gain.

I agree; most people who train and fire at the rifle range are firing under controlled circumstances, so they might be a good shot at the range; however if someone is firing a semi-automatic rifle in a school and a teacher picks up his/her pistol and goes out to look for the shooter, he/she is going to be under incredible pressure, most likely having a lot of Adrenalin flowing, hands shaking,etc. It's quite possible that all of his/her shots could miss and where do all of those missed shots end up? hopefully all hit the wall and that is it; however if the hallway is crowded with students, it's possible some of the students will absorb some of the shots. It's also quite possible that one or more of the bullets finds its intended mark and stops the shooter cold in his/her tracks. there are no guarantees either way.

And you don't think a cop experiences the same pressure/stress under fire? A few years ago, two patrolmen from NYPD, arguably the best trained municipal police force in the world engaged a guy on the street and shot NINE... I say again... NINE bystanders before they took him down. The bad guy didn't shoot them, the police did.

I think arming the teachers would be a huge mistake; instead hiring trained security or having police presence is the way to go; is it expensive? probably but what is a child's life worth to you? Do you not want the child to have the best possible protection that you can reasonably afford?

A mixture of the two is the best fix. Are you going to be able to put a guard in every building on campus? On every floor? In every hallway?

No, you won't. The odds are that any shooting that takes place will start in a location where the guard ISN'T. That makes it even more important to have armed faculty and staff members spread around campus.

Tell the teachers thanks, but no thanks. Leave it up to the professionals.

The dishonesty of this thread is alarming ... here, you actually perpetuate the belief that Deputies carrying Rifles is the answer to protect our children in school.


But as a combat soldier I must give you respect ... so please ... explain to us how a rifle is a close-quarter combat weapon.
