I'm glad he changed his mind.Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) has announced he will not end same-day voter registration in the state, after a report concluded it would cost $5.2 million to do so.
"There is no way I'm signing a bill that costs that kind of money," Walker told reporters on Wednesday, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
The announcement is a sharp reversal for Walker. In a Nov. 16 speech, he called for the repeal of the state's same-day registration law, which has been in place since 1976 and is often credited with boosting voter turnout.
I registered several weeks before my first time voting a few years ago, and since volunteers are often worthless incompetents, I've had to register again every time I've gone to vote. Since my name is spelled in a particularly odd way, last time I registered the poll workers corrected my spelling. When I got to the polling place and they looked for my name in the book, I had to go through the process of registration yet again. I was annoyed that if they'd gotten rid of same day registration this might happen again and I might not be able to vote period.
