    French Food Waste Law

French Food Waste Law Changing How Grocery Stores Approach Excess Food

Donating food that is about to pass it's sell by date has farther reaching effects than you would think.

While the world wastes about one-third of the food it produces, and France wastes about 66 pounds per person per year, Americans waste some 200 billion pounds of food a year. That's enough to fill up the 90,000-seat Rose Bowl stadium every day, says Jonathan Bloom, the author of American Wasteland, a book about food waste in the United States. He says there are different ways of cutting back on food waste. For example, you can start from the end of the chain by banning food in landfills.
Fresh foods for charities means healthier population. Less food in landfills means less greenhouse gasses. Donating rather than disposing means less expense for the grocer. Sounds like win/win to me, although I'm sure someone can find a downside.

In florida they have many ways to donate food all over the state. They have food banks that have cold boxs so local farms and farm markets and supermarkets can donate fresh foods that are iffy to sell but still good to consume. They have kitchens in many local churchs that provide meals, they coordinate different days so theres a meal most days.

The postal workers twice a year drop a bag in your mail and on it is a date they will pick up the bag you leave it by your mailbox. You put canned and boxed food nothing perishable and they take it.

Theres alot of homeless in florida, the weather makes it easier to deal with it, so it attracts those from other states that can get here. You dont have to worry about freezing to death and frost related ailments like frostbite.

You realize government regulation is the reason food donation is difficult in this country, right? That, and ambulance chasing lawyers. Are you willing to reduce government regs to facilitate food donation? How about tort reform? I seriously doubt it. Libs are their own worst enemy.
