I was going to go see TSOW when it came out - my youngest son is a serious film buff and highly recommended it - but I decided against it when I read that the creature eats a cat at one point in the film. (Yeah, I know, it's just a movie and I'm sure no animals were harmed during it's making, just like I'm sure it says in the end credits...I just have a problem with the concept.) I'm over it now, I think, and when it comes out on DVD I'm sure my kid will be buying it and I'll watch it then.

BTW, one of the special features on the DVD of del Toro's first film, Cronos, is del Toro giving a tour of the house he bought in which to store and display his vast - and I mean vast - collection of horror and sci-fi memorabilia and literature. (He used to keep it in his main house, but at some point the wife rebelled. Sound familiar, guys?) Absolutely incredible.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.” - Robert E. Howard

"Only a rank degenerate would drive 1,500 miles across Texas and not eat a chicken fried steak." - Larry McMurtry

I probably ate cat in the Philippines. Of course, they called it "chicken" satay.

You might enjoy (or not) James Clavell's "King Rat". It was also a good movie....but books are always better.
