    I served in that division right out of airborne school.

    And they were carrying assault rifles!
    That would be the 101st Airborne Division. Speaking of which, this particular group during WWII was known as the 99th Airborne Squadron, AKA the "Red Tails" These pilots never lost a bomber while on escort duty and gave Hitler's troops conniption fits because of their aggressiveness. Now, what was their nickname?
