You have to wonder why some people think that teaching is a walk in the park and how many people would be able to afford to send their kids to school, but for the public system and how many have the luxury or educational ability to homeschool. If an ill-educated and unskilled labor force is currently a problem, just imagine if there were no public education. If they are curious about the result of that kind of system, they need only look to the third world for the results.

I can't help but think that this is ultimately an archaic mode of thought by people who want to go back at least 150 years where the poor were ignorant and passive and worked 14 hour days just to eat while the wealthy lived like sultans.

If you know a subject, and aren't shy, anyone can read from a book. It all by rote and the subject doesn't change. The curriculum for the subject doesn't change.

Teachers are over-rated, There's nothing special about them; not then and not now. It's B.A. grads who convinced school boards that a B.A. and a year of teaching training was necessary. It isn't.

These tech people are inventing something new. They aren't being taught.

Some people in the world are living off of garbage dumps or are basically starving and relying on international charity to keep them alive. Third world nations have large populations of people who are basically less than a week from living with real starvation.


On the job training doesn't teach people to read, write or do math and among the least well-off people giving birth to children, illiteracy is a significant problem. Furthermore, people who rely on two incomes just to feed their families and keep a roof over their heads, don't have the luxury to have one person stay home to homeschool or the money to pay for private schooling.

Being poor and being un-educated are two different things. An educated Brazilian with no job is an educated dumpster diver.
