Feminist Science Fiction novel "The Power" describes a future in which women gain power to inflict enormous pain or death on men by emitting electrical blasts from their fingertips. As women become aware of their no longer hidden power, they begin to use it to subjugate men. I find the idea very interesting, and I would like to describe a contrary scenario -- in which men rather then women gain special powers.
The first objection to the idea of men gaining power is that they have all the power already. Even though men supposedly have all the power and privilege, there is a lot of discrimination against men in USA, Canada, Australia, NZ, UK, and much of Europe. Male offenders get 63% longer sentences then female offenders for the same crime. Men are discriminated in Divorce cases. Male victims of Domestic Violence are arrested more frequently then helped. Male bashing is widely accepted in the Mainstream Media -- including calls for the extermination of men, which are supposedly a joke. Anyone who mentions these issues offline risks being fired and blacklisted.
More likely then not, the situation in 2050s will be much worse, but that is a subject of another Science Fiction story I am working on. Here I would like to present a vision of 2050s in which men gain CounterPower and thus gain equality in areas where they are discriminated against. What would CounterPower be? The simplest idea to be rejected is CounterPower being a magical ability. Another bad idea for CounterPower is the idea of women's libido becoming much stronger then men's. This idea has already been presented in hundreds of thousands of "adult" fiction works and movies.
So what could the real CounterPower be? In order to answer this question, we must look at the main weakness which causes men to lose current Culture War. Men's main weakness is their unawareness of men's issues, identity, and class interests. The number of men advocating for men's interests is tens of times less then the number of women advocating for women's interests. Almost every woman and man is aware of the Pay Gap, yet very few men are aware of the Sentencing Gap. Almost every woman and man is aware of sexual assault, yet very few men are aware of Presumption of Male Guilt. Almost everyone is aware of Domestic Violence, while few people understand discrimination faced by male victims. Almost every woman and man is aware of misogyny, yet very few men are aware of misandry. At least 70% of women recognize women's issues as their issues, while few men are aware of men's issues. According to "American National Election Study of 2016", only 5.5% of men feel there is a great deal of discrimination against men, another 9% feel there is a lot of discrimination. Most importantly, many women and almost as many men are passionate about women's issues. In most online spaces where gender discussion takes place, antifeminists mostly attack feminists' ideas, while feminists attack antifeminists as people. Exceptions exist in both directions. In offline spaces most people who believe that men are treated unfairly fear speaking up.
The CounterPower would not consist of a magic trick learned by any individual man. The CounterPower would consist of a generation of men aware of discrimination and undeserved hate experienced by their gender. The CounterPower would consist of over 70% of men saying that men experience a great deal of discrimination in American National Election Study of 2056. The CounterPower would consist of men and some women who are not afraid to speak about men's issues -- they will find strength in numbers. In 2018, most men and women who understand the extent of antimale discrimination have to keep very very quiet. Once their number reaches a critical mass, silencing would be impossible.
The CounterPower would consist of a generation of men who would see their gender as an important part of their identity. The CounterPower would consist of millions of men and some women who would see misandrists as The Enemy. They would not view misandrists as people with terrible ideas, but as terrible incarnations. The CounterPower would mean that very few would dare to make hateful generalizations about men. The CounterPower would also mean that men's issues would be discussed a lot and addressed.
What kind of magic could bring the CounterPower? The magic consists of thousands of men and women who do speak up about men's issues. The magic consists of men and women who speak despite constant and massive abuse from SJWs. Any host of a YouTube channel or a Facebook group banned after years of work and tens of millions of views feels shattered. Feeling depressed is natural, while re-uploading the contents to another platform and continuing to work is magic. Magic is understanding that whenever one online door closes, two other online doors open.
How fast can CounterPower appear? Most men and women who advocate for abused and discriminated men want it to appear ASAP. Unfortunately, it would take a long time for most men to understand their situation. Unfortunately, discrimination would get much worse before it gets better. But one day -- hopefully in about 30 years, the CounterPower will appear.
