    tariff tax 101

For the younger generation who wasn't around in the 70"s. Harley Davidson motorcycles was bad, the joke was if you buy one be sure to a buy a magnet to pull behind you to pick up the parts. Also they were expensive. So many people would buy the better and the cheaper Hondas bike. You could buy a 750 Honda for about 1,200 back then and a Harley would cost more than 2,300. Rather than building a better more reliable bike, they sent lobbyist to Washington to ask congress to put a tariff tax on Honda bikes. So now a good Honda would cost as much as a poorly built Harley. As time went on they finally started building a better bike, they darn near went bankrupt. The car company's did the same thing, Japanese cars were better and more reliable than American cars, so they sent a lobbyist to Washing also. As like Harley they now build a car that comes close to the Japanese cars. I don't know why Harley and the car manufactures in this country didn't see the writing on the wall about their product. But made the Japanese products cost more so they could sale their product. About the steel tariff tax. It will help bring back the American steel workers, help put people to work. About the time the industry is looking good, the union will call a strike for more money. And then we start all over again,.

Most informed people say that if enacted, these tarrifs will help create some jobs in the US steel industry, but hurt job growth in the economy overall.

Tariffs are a protectionist policy. History has shown that they are harmful to our economy. We can adress the issue without enacting these protectionist policies.

I love listening to Republicans argue in favor of higher taxes as if it's a good thing.

Conversely, I love listening to Democrats argue against higher taxes as if it's a bad thing.

In both cases, you have a clear example of inconsistency and self-contradiction for purely partisan reasons.

America is destitute of principle and it shows.

Bingo but you have the prices wrong, a 750 honda was 900 and the harley was 3200 and harley did suck then.

The auto makers did the same thing with reagan they whined they couldnt compete with japanese prices so congress put a 1500.00 tariff on every japanese vehicle that entered the country.

We have HUGE trade deficits with china and other countries, Im all for specific targeted tariffs

So what about those overseas putting those tariffs on American Products. Whats your answer to that purposefully plied tactic? That favors them over us and that they wont apply the same standard to.

If they want to harm their own economy and hurt their consumers, that's on them.

Agreed.....Trump shouldn't go with the blanket coverage. Go after those that aren't playing fair. Like the EU and China. Let them $#@! all that they want. Then when they break or pause. Lets give them a free box of tissues. We can write that $#@! off.
