The bugs shown on the google link are different than the ones I remember what was called a stink bug as a kid.
Here's the type I remember:
Although I do remember seeing the brown type but don't remember crushing them or their odor.

After a bit of research, I realized I was referring to the Spined Soldier Bug, not the Assassin Bug, but the rest of my statement stands.

Funny, but it's also a species of stink bug, but it prefers to eat other bugs, rather than plants.
