LoL - You just admitted that you don't know diddly about Mac and can't fix 'em. "Send it to Apple"? - LoL .. perhaps you live in Bum$#@! Egypt.
We have a factory store in the mall (hate the mall) and a MacLife store (where I buy and service mine if necessary - the latter not).

I've converted three friends so far .. and after 2-5 years they all tell me ZERO issues and now that they've gone Mac, they won't go back.
BO, off topic but when CPU speeds go up what do you do with the Mac? Does the CPU have to be replaced. Curious.

I have always gone with the IBM clones. I can get a desktop that does what I need it to do at the fraction of the price. I typically keep them for 3-5 years. This one is 7 years old and cost $500 (sale price). My issue currently is likely the monitor. Since I have two hooked up and only one has this issue.
I had one Dell that had a hard drive issue and customer service always said it was some software that I installed. I ended up googling the fault code and finally Dell sent me a knew hard drive. That lasted me another few years and then I bought the current HP that I have now - the one that is 7 years old.
Apple's may have less issues, but they are over-priced.

In quoting my post, you affirm and agree that you have not been goaded, provoked, emotionally manipulated or otherwise coerced into responding.

If you can find a used part you still cant fix a mac unless you have special tools. They designed the inside so you need proprietary tools.
In the shop we convert mac owners to PC constantly and by just telling them the truth.
If your hard drive goes in a PC bring it to us we try to recover all your data from your old drive, we put in a new hard drive reload your operating system and replace your recovered data if we could recover. The charge for that total is 145.00 with the cost of the hard drive included.
Try and get a hard drive replaced from mac with data recovery and full reload
