On a vaguely related note, Douglas Murray's book "The Madness of Crowds" talks a little about this topic as well.

That book is a must read for anyone, IMO. For Stock/Commodity brokers it was sort of an unwritten rule you have to read it. If you choose not to the "license to steal" (j/k) that you worked so hard to obtain , lacks meaning. It is every bit as relevant now as the day it was written. In honor of the first recognized financial bubble the "Tulip Bulb Craze of Holland" let me simply say ..." Tulips anyone "?

That's modern liberalism but Deneen is criticizing liberalism in the broad sense, classical liberalisms several branches: modern liberalism, conservatism, and libertarianism.

When it comes to ideology I think in broad strokes. My understanding of one label to the next is not deep enough to do justice to this thread. I think in terms of well...broad strokes. Such ss A B did not work because it was not based on logic but emotion. Said " emotion" happened to vault up and over the facts of the matter or economic considerations. Im going to read up on a couple of things and revisit this thread. I understand me but I want to be sure others do as well. To address this in an efficient manner is a good start

Hopefully I'm not just tossing labels around but trying to give them definition.

Deneen's view of liberalism is less USian than European.
