No one said there were markers for Judaism. There are DNA markers for Jewish ancestry. Why is irrelevant. They are a genetically identifiable people (i.e. a race). No more. No less. Whether they are adherents of Judaism, converted to Christianity, or (all too often) become obnoxious atheists matters not. They are still Jews.

There is no Amish people. They're of Germanic stock.

I don't even believe that there are races and the word is a recent and mistaken invention to justify prejudice. According to the definition, there are only four races: caucasian, mongoloid or asian, $#@!id or black and australoid per Carleston S. Coon in 1962. There needs to be another word to describe ethnic hate. Perhaps "ethnicism".

Now of course there is a great deal of controversy over whether or not the Jews are the actual descendants of the ancient Hebrews. That's a politically explosive issue but whether they are actually Khazars, for example, is irrelevant for our purposes. They are a people.

So, the Jews came from Canaanite people who inhabited the Southern Levant, Syria, ancient Israel, and the Transjordan region. The Amish trace to a very small region of Switzerland and are uniquely identifiable to a geneticist. The only real difference is the age of these religions and the size of their populations. Gypsies would be another example, although not inclusive of religion, of people who don't outbreed, but comprise many different nationalities yet remain genetically related because of their closed cultural habits. They've been around for about 1,500 years.
