The question is from a statement Clapper made in which he never said Jew, he said Russian. He was talking about Russia.

If you put that in context with everything else we knew the Russians were doing to interfere with the election, and just the historical practices of the Russians, who typically, almost genetically driven to co-opt, penetrate, gain favor, whatever, which is a typical Russian technique. So we were concerned.

What he actually said in full context is 100% correct:

Genetic? Of course it's racist. If you change Jew to black what would it be? Jews are Semites, not whites.

You didnt post the entire statement Eth, you posted that short paragraph and thats all we can base our response on. It doesnt say anything about genetics.

Of course its understood that being Jewish is a faith and not a race but thats how they are identified by most everyone. Israelis are an ethnic group, like Europeans.

Jews certainly are a race. They are Semites the same as Arabs are.

Russia is comprised of many different ethnic groups, so in my view, Russians by definition are not a single ethnic group, but a set of many ethnic groups, most commonly those, whose native language is Russian. That partially explains why the word "Russian" in Russian language is an adjective, whereas other nationalities are nouns. I get what you're saying, and it was an insensitive statement made by Clapper. However, if we were to classify this as being racist, then that would mean the President was racist when he said the judge could not be unbiased because he was of Mexican heritage.

Many Mexicans are of Spanish descent. They are not NA.
