Op ed: Manipulated minds
Bob Livingston
The great school walkout of March 14 demonstrates the hive mind, collectivist mentality that has infected America.
The act of walking out of school for 17 minutes over the issue of “school safety” is a pointless, nonsensical exercise. No one is made physically “safer” by a mass exodus of kids leaving class, though the argument can surely be made that their minds and psyches are much safer out of school than in. Nor will it lead to laws being passed to “keep them safe,” because no amount of laws or government actions can create a “safe” society. Expecting that they can is a Utopian pipe dream.
That the walkout so quickly became a nationwide “movement” demonstrates that is was not an organic one. It is an AstroTurf movement funded and fueled by anti-liberty special interests.
In the wake of the shooting, two major schools of thought have emerged. One is that everyone save law enforcement must be disarmed of most, if not all, weapons. This is the one pushed by the radial gun-grabbing left and adopted by the mainstream media and even some so-called conservatives in places of power and influence.
This is the view being pushed on those students participating in the walkout. Manipulating powers have convinced the school students that by their actions they can “demand” a change in public policy and that guns will magically disappear from society. They expect that some law can be passed that will “keep them safe,” though what that law will be when there are already a plethora of laws in place against violence, murder and use of guns in commission of a crime, no one has said.
The second school of thought is that gun-free zones should be eliminated and teachers should be armed and trained. This is the view of the Trump Administration; and several states have taken up legislation that would provide for that.
The pro-gun right, by and large, endorses this idea. But embracing the idea that special legislation needs to be passed to allow school teachers to provide for their own and their students’ self-defense demonstrates how the public’s mind has been manipulated on the gun issue. Teachers do not lose their rights when they become teachers, and any policies and laws that were designed to strip them of that right are unconstitutional, regardless of what a black robe-wearing oligarch says.
The discussion about arming teachers has sent the gun-grabbing anti-liberty crowd into a frenzy. They are caterwauling to the high heavens about the “dangers” of having more guns in school.
And then, as if on cue, an incident occurs in California in which an armed “teacher” allows a gun to misfire during a “safety lesson,” causing injuries to students.
Merely a coincidence? Color me skeptical

California....I thought that guns were forbidden in their schools except for in the hands of the police? WTF is junior G-Man doing with a pistol in a CA school?
Oh, and before y'all claim he shot someone, the "injuries" were caused by falling debris..............
