An NFL anthem protester chooses dollars over his principles

A top NFL safety backtracks and licks his self-inflicted wounds.

"Eric Reid is walking back his commitment to kneeling during the national anthem as a form of protest. Nearly two weeks into NFL free agency, Reid has encountered a barren market for his services despite being regarded as one of the best available safeties"

IMO there is no room for political activism in pro sports. The discerning customer is paying hard earned money to watch the athletes get the damn ball into the end zone, basket, goal, cup and over the fence.

Maybe Reed and Kapernick can start instructing children at the Boys & Girls Club during their hiatus from any paying gig in the NFL.

Ignorant racist $#@!s far outweigh discerning customers in NFL and many other sports.

Season tickets are what they are afraid of not selling. The damage is done.

I agree. It's time to get rid of the so-called "national anthem" ceremonies.

Yeah it was already proven that the Knee takers.....weren't really into their tissue issues. But they did prove that the money was more important than their beliefs.

Maybe next year they can stand on their heads for a new gimmick.

OK, serious question. What if the NFL players were kneeling to protest president Trumps treatment by the mainstream media. Would you people be just as up in arms about politics in sports?

Typical -- play the race card.

How is it ignorant or racist to say: You can protest all you want, but because it hurts my business I'm not going to hire you?

How is it ignorant or racist to say: I don't appreciate you denigrating our National Anthem and our American Flag and while you are free to do so if your non-governmental union employer puts up with it, I do not have to support it so I'm not going to spend $115 for a ticket, $35.00 to park, $9.50 for a beer ,$5.50 for a braut to financially support that behavior. (Note: that's usually times four - so it costs me about $600 to take myself and 3 clients or buds to a Browns game -- 2 Beers, a braut, parking and the tix -- not to mention that I usually have to take them to a restaurant beforehand.)

As a matter of fact, I think that both instances are non-ignorant, rational and non-racist. Isn't that what freedom is? If the NFL team owner is willing to permit it, great. If not, that's his/her choice. If a fan doesn't want to support it, then said fan is fee to choose not to do so. As an aside, though, how many NFL games have you been to? 64% of the NFL players are African American. And we wear their shirts, their jerseys, buy their video games and spend gobs of money to support the teams. Yet, you call us racist?

How many NFL games have you been to where you have seen this "racist" or "ignorant" behavior?

Ticket sales don't pay the players salaries.

A better question would be, what if the NFL players were kneeling to protest the effort to ban guns, would the hard right then attempt to lie by saying they were protesting the flag or the anthem?
“Conscientiously believing that the proper condition of the negro is slavery, or a complete subjection to the white man, and entertaining the belief that the day is not distant when the old Union will be restored with slavery nationally declared to be the proper condition of all of African descent, and in view of the future harmony and progress of all the States of America, I have been induced to issue this address, so that there may be no misunderstanding in the future”

A "Trump supporter" would never do anything other than stand and act respectfully during the anthem.
