In this particular case, even if we agree to disagree on the point that what happened before being sworn into office doesn't matter and all that matters is their conduct in office, we have a case where Trump is claiming the affairs didn't happen. Is he lying? If so, that is directly on him. If the liars are all the women accusing him, then it's on them. The fact Cohen, out of the blue, contacts Daniels and pays her to be silent proves dishonesty on Cohen's part, regardless if Trump knew or not....what is the likelihood Trump didn't know? I don't know, but considering he seems to be working in concert with Cohen against Daniels is suspicious.
As for the accusation that Daniels is blackmailing and extorting money out of Trump, I strongly disagree. First, it's all public. Second, honest people can't be blackmailed. They just fess up and say "F-U-C-K Y-O-U" to the blackmailer/extorter. All Trump had to do is give a mea culpa to the public about something that happened 11 years ago and all of this would go away. Instead, he denied, denied, denied and then, like Bill Clinton, attempted to smear the names of his accusers. That isn't something that happened 11 years ago, that is a dishonest act committed in the present.
