Hungary votes to keep prime minister and right wing in power

And of course WaPo is upset and confused over the choice of the voters.

Simple. Nationalism has not succumbed to globalism - yet.

Viktor Orban, Hungary’s staunchly anti-migrant prime minister, was reelected Sunday after his right-wing Fidesz party was projected to win a supermajority of seats in parliament. The resounding victory will probably permit Orban’s government to continue with democratic backsliding.

Orban’s ruling coalition was expected to win 133 of 199 seats in parliament, according to the first results from Hungary’s national election website, with more than 90 percent of votes tallied. That barely gives him the two-thirds majority he needs to rewrite the constitution as he sees fit. The largest opposition group was projected to be the far-right Jobbik party, which shares much of Fidesz’s anti-immigrant platform and was expected to claim 26 seats.

The vote — easily the most consequential since Hungary’s post-communist transition — was widely seen as a reflection on the state of democracy and the rule of law in a European Union member state that in recent years has been sliding toward autocracy. The result — coming in an election with high turnout — quashed any hopes of an opposition presence in a country that has essentially been a one-party state for nearly a decade.

In the past eight years in power, Orban — in two consecutive terms as prime minister — has enacted drastic changes to Hungary’s constitution, attempted to dismantle its system of checks and balances, and sought to silence his critics, notably in the Hungarian media.

On Sunday night, Orban appeared in Budapest to declare victory. “There is a big battle behind us,” he said, speaking at the Fidesz campaign headquarters. “We have won. Today Hungary had a decisive victory. We have the chance to defend Hungary.”
Now the question is whether the Eastern European members of the EU can get that organization under control. They need to stop the free-flow of Muslim migration and return power to the EU member states.

Nationalistic fervor. Good thing we don't have any experience with that.

    lol

Nationalism is not a bad thing. Or have you put a couple of military aged Muslim migrants up in your house?

Don't let them mess with your cleaning supplies. They have read the al Qaeda Internet article "How to make a bomb in the kitchen of your mom."

Viktor Orban, after soaring to reelection win in Hungary, to target George Soros and NGOs

Now that Orban as a super-majority in parliament, he will have more power to deal with migration issues. The press, does however, continue to demonize him.

Almost immediately, the fear and anxiety were palpable.Viktor Orban, Hungary’s strongman, right-wing prime minister, soared to reelection victory on Sunday with a powerful supermajority in parliament — precisely the margin he needed to continue an overhaul of the country’s democratic constitution and system of checks and balances.

On Monday morning, hours after the election results were announced, Orban’s representatives announced one of the first orders of business: What they are calling the “Stop Soros” bill is designed to crack down on liberal nongovernmental organizations, think tanks and other institutions that, in the eyes of the government, have worked against their agenda and on behalf of the migrants Orban seeks to keep out.

“Soros” refers to George Soros, the Hungarian American and Jewish financier, government-accountability advocate and pro-migrant philanthropist, whom Orban has cast as an evil puppet master, pulling strings that spell Hungary’s demise.

First he should abolish hate speech laws because it hinders the county from telling the truth. When he tries to protect his citizens the first thing they call him is antisemtic or islamphobic. If he says Soros is out to destroy his county they claim he can't say that because Soros claims to be Jewish even though Soros admits it. How did countries become racist by the truth, by a lie. Religions are not a race.
