If Trump wins, it will be because the economy is doing well. It's almost impossible for an incumbent with a decent economy to lose. The only one in the Democrat milieu with the cache to mount a serious challenge would be Bernie Sanders, but he has earned the contempt of the DNC establishment for his bitter feud with the Clinton machine. He's also getting quite old. The only young and fresh Democrat with similar attributes to Sanders is Tulsi Gabbard, who I really like, but is also hated by the DNC establishment for her unwavering support of Sanders during the primaries. She is also very critical of US foreign policy, which earns her hatred from the powerful neocon/neoliberal alliance.

Although I can't disagree with the results, I do disagree with your belief on why incumbent are reelected. IMHO, it's because too many voters are fearful of change and would rather stick with what they know. In short, not lazy, just fearful.

Today's prediction.

The Republicans will lose both the House and the Senate. President Trump will be investigated by both chambers throughout the rest of his term. About four months prior to the next election he will be impeached by the House and around two months out he will be removed by the Senate. The final president will be a democrat.

Since people are going on record with predictions, here's mine:

Democrats win the House in November but the margin remains very narrow.

Republicans retain the Senate, again with a narrow margin.

Trump stays President, but I doubt he'll run for reelection...with a chance he resigns for "medical reasons", not by force, coercion or any legal reasons. Simply because he's a 70+ billionaire who doesn't need this $#@!.

Pence wins in 2020.
