Trump is not the first president to deploy the National Guard

Trump is not the first president to deploy the National Guard to the U.S.-Mexico border

President Trump is taking a lot of heat for his decision to deploy the National Guard to America's southern border, but he is repeating a move made by many of his predecessors.
Former presidents, including Barack Obama, George W. Bush, George H.W. Bush, Woodrow Wilson and William Howard Taft, all issued orders similar to those Trump made in a proclamation Wednesday. In 1954, President Eisenhower's attorney general requested the Army assist the border patrol during a major sweep for undocumented immigrants, but his request was denied.
Here is a look at other times the U.S. deployed — and in one case attempted to deploy — troops to the border.

You know, the name calling based on Trump's appearance really is childish. I could've used a number of silly little childish names to call Chairman Maobama based on his appearance but I didn't. I use Chairman Maobama b/c of his legislating from the throne after his 'I have a pen' comment -- which to me was enormously dangerous. I used (invented) WPOAT (Worst President of All Time) because; well, he was. The point is -- these monikers were based on his conduct and policies -- all fair game. For the side of the political aisle that is supposedly above all of this, it makes me laugh that they've resorted to this childish / kindergarten behavior.

Can you imagine what the press would've done to a conservative if they nicknamed Obama based on his appearance?
Any time you give a man something he doesn't earn, you cheapen him. Our kids earn what they get, and that includes respect. -- Woody Hayes

I too, have often referred to him as Maobama. But its merely poking fun as I see it. I have a fetish for nicknames and such. Its humor to me.

Was it "crass grandstanding" when the previous two presidents did the same thing? Well, I'm sure it was when Bush did it, but .......
