Most thrift stores don't have public restrooms. The biggest reason some people are just nasty and they don't want to clean up after people. I use to on the side sell coins not just online but at a flea market on the weekends at time. They could clean the bathroom and an hour after you would see toilet paper with blood on the floor, crap all over the seat, paper towels in the commode, and piss all over.

A person with common sense can tell the difference between a homeless person and two men waiting in a cafe until the rest of their party arrives before they Order.

There are occasions where people walk into a restaurant and use the rest room before they are seated. Should you be asked to leave if you do that?

The CEO of Starbucks already came out and said the actions of that particular manager were wrong. That manager has been fired.

This type of thing is unacceptable. It should not be justified, excused or condoned.

The police. They are supposed to have higher standards than a manager at Starbucks.

The actions taken by the police in this incident can not be defended.

There is no justification for placing these men under arrest, hauling them out in handcuffs and detaining them for more than eight hours. That said, more than likely this will make them fairly wealthy. I hope they don't just blow it.

The CEO should fire himself, he made the rule no one uses the restroom unless they buy something. Maybe he should have used his brain and thought not all people get there at the same time.

It depends. One could argue that the removal was a violation of the contract, implied in fact, between the customers and the business. Basically, a business like Starbucks agrees to let people access its premises as long as certain conditions are met. Sitting at a table and waiting for your friends before you order is well within established customs and norms, so if that's the manager's only basis for removing them, the police who made the arrest could be in trouble.

Why are you trying to justify this?

Starbucks didn't supervise the actions of the officers who responded to this call.

These guys were arrested, hauled out in cuffs and detained for more than eight hours over basically nothing.

If it were their policy for 'all' patrons, I might have some sympathy, since according to Starbucks HQ, the restaurant manager makes the rules, however 'other' people in the community are apparently allowed to linger without making a purchase while waiting for other parties to join them and even according to the CEO of Starbucks, they see themselves as 'community hubs', thus it is normal to have people waiting for friends.

It appears that the restaurant manager made an exception for these two gentlemen and called the police. The two were evidently awaiting an individual who runs a real-estate development firm who said he was meeting the two men to discuss business investment opportunities. He arrived as police officers were removing his guests and drew the obvious conclusion.
In quoting my post, you affirm and agree that you have not been goaded, provoked, emotionally manipulated or otherwise coerced into responding.

Seems like abuse of the 911 system. Unless the men were threatening someone this was no emergency.
