Finland dropping universal basic income test program

Finland is ending a test program that provides guaranteed income to unemployed citizens, according to new reports. Universal basic income is a modern welfare scheme through which citizens are granted a consistent, livable income from the government, without condition. Finland adopted its program in 2017, giving 2000 randomly selected, unemployed citizens about $670 each month for two years. That money is not taxed by the government. While the program gained global notoriety as economies across the globe grapple with changing labor force trends, members of Finland’s welfare bureau have reportedly said the country’s government will not continue with the program in its current form. https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics...program-report

Well I guess giving people money for doing nothing did not turn out to be a positive wealth builder.
"The powers of the federal government are enumerated; it can only operate in certain cases; it has legislative powers on defined and limited objects, beyond which it cannot extend its jurisdiction." James Madison 1788

Canada has the same plan but I think the money is required for rent. However, the cab driver that explained the program stated their is certain income criteria to get it. BUT he stated 75% of the people have figured out how to fraud it and get the money no matter what teh requirements are.
I am tired of everyone fighting with each other. This is all by design.

Charles Murray has a basic income proposal that makes sense.

    Give everyone $13000 a month.

    Note that's everyone.

Of that $3000 is earmarked for healthcare. Leaving $10,000 per month to do with a you pleased.

It would not add to the existing welfare system but replace it. And replace the clawback system where getting a job could have a negative effect of losing wlefare benefits.

Married folk would get $20,000 per month. So household could accumulate much.

Some organization is experimenting in frica, iirc, Kenya, where surprisingly the assurance of getting a basic income frees people to prusue other opportunities, jobs, business, and so on.

Someplace in Canada did it back a couple decades, successfully, so the government shut it down.

The Fox article notes that they don’t know what the study found out and they don’t say why Finland dropped it, so I think saying it didn’t work and why is not productive.
"Those who produce should have, but we know that those who produce the most — that is, those who work hardest, and at the most difficult and most menial tasks, have the least."
    - Eugene V. Debs (1855-1926), five-time Socialist Party candidate for U.S. President

Canada is doing a similar test among 4000 people.

How your cab driver knows that 75% of the participants are committing fraud sounds suspect to me.

If it worked why would they have dropped it?

You would be incorrect. He explained exactly how they fool the system. Guarantee he was correct. He wasn't anti program either, he had no agenda. It was just a discussion. he loved their HC for example. asked questions about ours.

Okay it was something like this. The money is put into the account for rent I believe. If you make x amount you start to lose money and may lose it all. But your money has to be auto deposit to be traceable. People receiving the benefit make sure they are receiving money outside trace-ability. By check, cash, anything but auto deposit. Then you get the full amount. He stated it was very easy to beat with no true-up at anytime. Something along those lines. He was clear they masses were beating it. Don't know why everything is so suspect. Not true not true. I have no reason to lie about this info and neither did the cab driver from Ethiopia. He loves Canada.

How can you guarantee your "non partisan" cabbie was correct?

So how exactly are 75% of the 4000 participants defrauding the government?

The only serious universal welfare plans replace all welfare programs. If they don't do that they will fail.

But then we need to trust the people to use the money for necessities.

That, and to be considered universal it cannot be selective as Canada's experiment was, and Finland's.
