I'd go so far as to punish anyone who attended the ceremony and laughed about it.
Yeah, there's a name for people with that kind of rigid, humorless, borderline psychotic reaction to such things, but I have too much respect for the rules of this forum to apply it to you. Get an imagination, and then use it.

I am not sure that is what she did.

She took the oath in good faith. She just wanted to do it in a way that would make it special for her daughter.

    Inappropriate?

Okay. I can see that point of view, although I think what ultimately determines if she made a "mockery" of it is whether she honors it or not. If she lives by it, there was no mockery. I could cite a lot of examples of people who took the oath under very solemn conditions, then made a mockery of it by their conduct while bound by it.

Worthy of the response it got from General Dip$#@!?

    No.

This is really nothing new. For decades, people have been taking the reenlistment oath in "nontraditional" places circumstances. I saw it done once with a trooper standing in the door of a C-130. He took the oath and exited on the green light. Communicators have taken it on the top of 600' monopole antennas, hooked up to a monkey harness. It has been done in all kinds of imaginative and unconventional ways.

This was a gross overreaction by the idiot National Guard General. A simple "Colonel, don't do that $#@! again" would have sufficed. Now, the service has lost a field grade officer, killed the career of a senior NCO and will probably lose another senior NCO, all because some desk jockey got a bug up his ass.

The people who were disciplined need to collect a detailed history of unconventional reenlistment ceremonies in all branches of the service, submit them to JAG and request a formal review of the General's decision.
Absolutely spot on. I had a feeling that you, for one, would get it.

I understand this was the Tennessee Air National Guard. I guess when they take to the air they will have Lamb Chop flying for them now.

There's no valid defense for this. I can't believe anyone who served honorably, especially as a career soldier could excuse or dismiss this.

That is an appropriate action to take, but idiotic hyperbole is much more fun.

Get over myself? Your lack of respect has nothing to do with me.

I understand. I have performed reenlistment ceremonies. Not like this one, but I did not post it. So had it been like this, zero people would know about it.

I also use to give briefings to soldiers going into combat. The first thing that I said was never post anything.

    But they do....
