Is It Time for tPF Amnesty?

This place has turned into a nursing home for angry old Republican men. The only counter to this are a smattering of feisty libertarians. But it isn't enough to make this place diverse or interesting.

So is it time to consider amnesty for posters who were banned? It has gotten so bad that I don't even care if you bring Bethere back. Bring them all back. I cannot stand one more thread with nothing but angry old nursing home denizens shaking their canes at the sky.

This forum is in desperate need of some balance and spice, otherwise it will just turn into a smaller version of Trinnity's forum.

As for their past rule breaking, so what? The nursing home gang throws around insults with a frequency and severity to easily match del on his worst day. Why should they get a free pass while other members are banned? It just doesn't seem fair to me.

I see Grizz, even after being banned years ago, still comes to the forum on a regular basis. Just let him come back. There is no good reason to keep these posters away from the forum anymore.

Many of them have found new homes and have no real desire to come back.

I myself, having grown tired of having my intelligence, integrity, ancestry, and honesty insulted fifty times a day have mostly moved on, like many others banned or not.

If they don't want to come back, then so be it. But I think they should at least have the option to return.

What I know for sure is that this place is in desperate need of diversity and balance. It appears the number of regular posters is dwindling. And ideologically speaking, it is becoming more and more homogeneous. Before long, this place will turn into Donald Trump's personal booster club.

We lost a lot of activity when a lot of those guys got banned. It was a gamble. It has not seemed to pay off unfortunately.

Yes, it was clearly a mistake. Not to defend their behavior, as it was egregious, but it's done nothing to make this place more civil or respectful. All it's done is embolden the geriatric chauvinists to act out even more aggressively.

I think the forum is going to have to start over; I've noticed over the past few months it's turned into an echo chamber. All you have is a group consisting--as someone else pointed out--of mostly angry republican men, plus a few Libertarians, a smattering of moderates and a couple of die-hard liberals. Those who've been banned found new forums and appear to be happy; the others just moved on to other forums.

Start over, learn from the mistakes that were made here, rebuild the forum and move forward.
God Bless America, God Bless our Military and God Bless the Police who defended the country against the insurgents on January 6, 2021

Think 3rd party for 2024 folks. Clean up America.

Once I tell you that we agree to disagree there will be no more discussion between us in the thread so please don't waste your time continuing to argue your points because I will not respond.

So what's the best way to do that?

In my opinion, it's to offer a general amnesty. If they don't return, then that's their choice. But at least they have the option.

I agree with the OP wholeheartedly.

I think there is probably more to it then that. We probably could probably suggest general amnesty, but have to ask ourselves is there a way to prevent any further erosion of the members and how do we attract new members? What does the forum offer that makes it attractive to others and makes them want to join?

I suspect there is no quick fix and it probably needs to be thought out extensively by the advisers/mods/admins with input from the forum members.
