If a means exists for certain banned members to be reinstated, I say go ahead and give it a try. There's nothing to lose. If they don't work out, ban them again.

At the bottom of almost every page is a Contact Us button that pops a Contact Us form that sends email to admin:

1. Everybody that was banned (since I have been a Mod) has been given any number of times to control their behavior. Nobody is banned for a single isolated incident, or for even 5 or 10. It takes a lot to get banned. Those that were banned most certainly deserved it. Each one was evaluated on an individual basis after many attempts to avoid a ban.
2. As I understand it, Admin always responds to requests for reconsideration when someone requests reinstatement (Amnesty).
3. Personally, (not speaking as a Mod) I would let a lot of them back in (knowing full well that we'd probably end up banning them again anyways). The discussion would be more lively. There were some bright but extremely offensive and contentious people that were banned. However, they were enlightening at times.
Any time you give a man something he doesn't earn, you cheapen him. Our kids earn what they get, and that includes respect. -- Woody Hayes
I'd like to point out what to me seems like an improvement on the forum. In this thread, we have had the participation of some forum advisors and some mods. That is a good thing. Not the arrival at some decision, approval or disapproval, but just some good old open communication. From the day I came to this forum, a good long time ago, it's been said that this is a member-driven forum. It can't be that without open communiation between members and leaders. Over the years some have made great effort to open up communication and even decision-making, while some have done the opposite. For a long time now there's been almost no communication. Hopefully the participation of advisors and mods on this topic signals a change toward more open communication. We're all in it together.
