"There is no historical evidence that tax cuts spur economic growth. The highest period of growth in U.S. history (1933-1973) also saw its highest tax rates on the rich: 70 to 91 percent. During this period, the general tax rate climbed as well, but it reached a plateau in 1969, and growth slowed down five years later. Almost all rich nations have higher general taxes than the U.S., and they are growing faster as well."Tax cuts spur economic growth

Wages are up as we write.
    Unemployment is down to 3.9.
The greatest economic growth in history was 1961-1968 after Kennedy cut taxes and cut them on the rich from 91% to 71%.

The federal government took in a record tax haul in April en route to its biggest-ever monthly budget surplus, the Congressional Budget Office said, as a surging economy left Americans with more money in their paychecks — and this more to pay to Uncle Sam.

All told the government collected $515 billion and spent $297 billion, for a total monthly surplus of $218 billion. That swamped the previous monthly record of $190 billion, set in 2001.

CBO analysts were surprised by the surplus, which was some $40 billion more than they’d guessed at less than a month ago.

Analysts said they’ll have a better idea of what’s behind the surge as more information rolls in, but for now said it looks like individual taxpayers are paying more because they have higher incomes.

“Those payments were mostly related to economic activity in 2017 and may reflect stronger-than-expected income growth in that year,” the analysts said in their monthly budget review. “Part of the strength in receipts also may reflect larger-than-anticipated payments for economic activity in 2018. The reasons for the added revenues will be better understood as more detailed information becomes available later this year.”

Meaningless until the end of the fiscal year. Bill Clinton's regime was in power the last time we balanced a budget

The Congress develops a budget. Who controlled the congress when we last had a balanced budget?

Upon further reflection, it is a start. But, much deeper cuts will be needed to ameliorate the inevitable crisis.

But the national debt is 21 trillion. If interest rates rise, we're in real trouble.

That's the national debt, not the annual budget. Do you know the difference?

Any time you can cut tens of billions of dollars from current spending levels, it's a good thing. The national debt can't be erased in one freaking year.
