DHS doubles focus on businesses that hire illegal immigrants

I agree these unscrupulous employers entice more illegals to come here, the DHS should place huge fines and jailtime on employers that refuse to comply with out immigration laws.

Homeland Security has already more than doubled the number of businesses it’s scoured this year for breaking immigration hiring laws and nearly quadrupled the number of arrests it’s made, officials said Monday.

The surge comes months after U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement chief Thomas D. Homan ordered the renewed focus, looking to put pressure on the magnet that draws many illegal immigrants to the U.S.

A little more than seven months into fiscal year 2018 ICE reported 3,510 worksite investigations, 2,282 paperwork audits, 594 criminal arrests and 610 administrative arrests stemming from worksite enforcement.

Each is already a significant increase over 2017’s year-long totals.

While much of the current debate in Washington focuses on the southwest border and a new increase in people attempting entry, analysts have long argued that the real action is in the interior of the U.S. where businesses are willing — and sometimes eager — to hire illegal immigrants, in violation of the law.

Those jobs end up serving as enticement for more people to make the journey, the analysts said.

Great, hit them with big fines, arrest any illegals with fake papers

For years I competed against contractors who were using illegal aliens for hanging crews. They could cut their prices in half and still make a profit. Residential was the worst. But the steel stud business was good. They had never hung rock on steel studs...didn't even have a clue as to where to start. "We hang for .08/sq. ft."
Right.......... I was paying my subs .32/sq. ft. and that was just to hang it. I supplied all the materials. I knew what kind of job I'd get with the B league hangers. Trust me, I kept my own crews busy and well paid.

My buddy and his brother were contractors. They were in Sacramento and decided to pick up a crew of Mexicans at the Home Depot for a job. Well, they took them to Denny's restaurant to eat, and drove off an stranded them there with the bill! hahahahaha

    That pretty mean!

It'll be interesting to see how fairly distributed this enforcement based upon business size and influence

Hotel chains and factory farms don't hire illegals? Sure.
